The Ninth Hour

The Ninth Hour The Ninth Hour by Alice McDermott
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I read this book for a book club I belong to.  I finally finished it two days before the club meets.  It not my kind of genre, but I look forward to discussing this book.  I struggled through it mainly because it was sad.  Granted it was set in the early days of old....no internet, phones etc. but times were simple then but hard.

We follow Annie who lost her husband when he committed suicide.  Because this book has a religious background, we find her going to help the nuns in their unselfish lives of helping the poor, hungry, sick and lost souls.  We also find her daughter, Sally, being brought up in that surrounding.  The book was filled with sacrifice along with love and forgiveness that maybe we need a bit more in todays world.
