Another Block Party

Ever since I moved into my house 14 years ago, there has been a block party.  In fact the first day of moving in, one neighbor offered me water to drink while another came over to welcome us and ask if we would be interested in joining in the block party that year.

Since I formerly lived on a busy Avenue, I was delighted to be able to say yes and realize I would get to know all my neighbors.  This has been a great block full of loving neighbors and helpful ones.  Anything I need help with they have been there for us....snow, shopping, light changing etc.  We take in each others packages when one is away; we are always exchanging pleasantries and so I really am happy to be living here.

So this past Sunday we had another block party.  Some family friends could not make it; some could but we were worried about the weather forecast of rain and thunderstorms.  We got up in the morning, set up the chairs, tables, tents, refreshments and waited.  Company came, the kids were happy with rides, and water slides, later music and glow bracelets.

And then - this happened......

Rain and thunderstorms with wind so bad we had to hold the tents from flying away.

  1. Oh wow! That's too bad you didn't have good weather for your block party. It looks like it's still warm though, since the ladies are in tank tops and shorts. Our neighborhood has block parties, but only certain people are invited, and we're not one of them.

  2. Yes, it was hot and humid. Even the rain didnt cool us. It rained another 3x after that but the kids loved running around in it. (Really? not invited? our whole block participates if they are not on vacation, shame..we look forward to it each year) A lot of work but worth it.
