WHATEVER Happened to Alec by Howard Wallman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
WHATEVER happened to Alec? Yes, I would love to know that. While reading this book (an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review) I was torn between 3 stars and 4 stars. In honesty, my 5 star books are usually thrillers/suspense books I finish in 2-3 days.
My first thoughts on this book was it kept bouncing back and forth between characters. Just as I got into one character, the next paragraph started with another. On the upside the characters themselves were very colorful. There was Maggie and Barry who were parents to Alec (if I was Alec I would have run away from home a long time ago), and the story goes from cheating, to romance, to bullying and mental illness.
The book kept me going because I did want to find out what happened to Alec although most of the book was around the other characters. But three quarters of the way in, things were looking better and I needed to get to the ending (my 4 star rating was coming up)….but I am the kind of person who needs an ending, no matter the outcome…and I was a bit disappointed in this one….but the story itself was not only interesting, but intriguing on how each character worked things out in the madness that pursued.
I did love the story between Stacy and Fran and how they stand up for what they believe. Their role in helping Alec and even Katy (Victoria’s daughter). I definitely would recommend this book for the amazing subject matter.
